What is Roleplay at Bicolline?
Learning about Bicolline's grey zones is a must!
"Roleplay", that big mysterious word that gets tossed around like enchanted glitter at every LARP event. But what does it actually mean at Bicolline?
Well, it's VERY variable…
See, roleplay at Bico is like building your own sandwich at a medieval tavern buffet. No two players do it exactly the same, and that's kind of the point!
Some people go full bard-core:
"M'lady, I shalt taketh yon goblet and smiteth yon goblin post haste!" — some dude trying his best
Others? They're just vibin'.
No accents. No elaborate backstory about being the exiled heir to the Throne of Spaghetti. Just living in the world, reacting to things as they happen, while drinking cider and keeping it chill.
It's all about what makes you comfortable as a roleplayer, and what lets you immerse yourself in the world of Bicolline!
The Spectrum of Roleplay
Think of roleplay at Bico as a sliding scale, not a checklist. Some folks are deep in character all week (well, they try their best). Others are here to hang out with friends in a medieval fantasy setting and say "thoughts" ironically. Both are valid.
The real magic is that all those styles somehow mix into one big immersive stew. You'll walk past a full courtroom drama with judges, witnesses and yelling… only to turn the corner and find a random elf drunkenly arguing with a goblin over the price of video games. That's Bico, baby.
Wait, Is Roleplay Even Required?
Short answer? No. But also… kinda?
Look, nobody's going to chase you off the battlefield because you forgot to say "milady." But the more you lean into it, even just a little, the more fun you'll have. Bicolline is a shared world. And every time you choose to respond in-character, dress the part, or keep your phone hidden, you're helping that world feel real for everyone.
How to Roleplay at Bicolline (Without Stressing)
Start small.
You don't need a 10-page backstory. Just pick a vibe (mysterious rogue? noble peasant? chaotic raccoon druid?) and run with it. Adjust as you go.
React in character.
If someone comes to you with in-game troubles or problems, your response should probably be something more in-game than "lol what." Even just pretending to be confused in a fantasy way keeps the flow alive.
What NOT to Do
Even if your personal style of roleplay is more "drunken wizard fails at flirting," there are still a few guidelines to keep things fun and immersive for everyone:
Don't break the moment.
If someone's clearly deep in character, maybe don't interrupt with, "Dude did you watch Kpop Demon Hunters?" Read the room. Let the magic breathe.
Watch the decorum.
A medieval scene + a modern can of Coors Light = immersion oof. Use pouches, mugs, wooden bowls, or any trick to keep things fantasy-coded. You'd be amazed what a leather wrap can hide.
Tips for Surviving (and Thriving) as a New Roleplayer
Copy the pros.
Listen to and watch the veterans. Learning from them is a great way to vibe your way toward becoming one with the Bicolline world, just as they've done before.
Group up.
Roleplay is 1000% easier when you've got guildmates or friends to bounce off of. Don't be afraid to follow someone else's lead.
Let go of perfection.
You will break character. You will mess up your lines. It's fine. Everyone does it. Just roll with it and keep going. Bicolline isn't a movie, not every speech or moment is going to be epic… and that's okay! Keep playing along and enjoy the moments!
Remember: It's Your Bico Story
Whether you're a full-time fantasy goblin or someone who just likes to swing foam weapons and yell cool things during battle, your roleplay style is valid. There's no "right" way, just the way that makes the world more fun for you (and doesn't trample someone else's fun along the way).
You're not just playing in a world… you're helping build it.
Now get out there and make some questionable decisions in character!
