So What Can You Do?

Here's how to make your experience smoother (and way more fun):

  1. Learn a Few Phrases

You don't need to become fluent in Quebecois overnight, but learning basics like:

    • "Bonjour!" (Hello)
    • "Merci!" (Thank you)
    • "Je ne parle pas français." (I don't speak French.)
    • "Est-ce que tu parles anglais?" (Do you speak English?)
    • "Où est X?" (Where's X?)
This helps you not only get by, but also shows respect, and that matters.

  2. Be Polite When Asking for English
Most people are cool switching to English, if you ask kindly. Don't demand, don't scoff, and definitely don't act like everyone should speak your language just because you showed up. That kind of energy? Not the Bico vibe.

  3. Use Context & Vibes
Even if you don't understand every word, body language, tone, and a few key words can go a long way. Think of it like LARP charades. You'll start catching on quicker than you expect.

  4. Buddy Up
Roll with a bilingual friend or guildmate if you can. Some groups even act as translators or go-between guides for newcomers. Use that network!

English-Speaking Guilds to the Rescue

You are far from the only anglophone adventurer on the field. There are plenty of English-speaking guilds and groups at Bicolline. Some of them are fully English, others are bilingual and used to mixing both languages in character and out.

Joining one of these groups is a great way to ease your transition into the game, get help translating lore, and avoid the "I have no idea what anyone is saying" panic.

Even if you're soloing your first time, these guilds often welcome visitors for parties, joint missions, or in-character shenanigans. Don't be shy about reaching out in advance, most of them are super friendly and eager to help newcomers settle in.

Want help finding one? Check out the Guilds & Nations section or drop into the Jinx Bico Discord and say hi. Having some Bico-friends before your first event is always the best plan!
